Edgar Mueller's Amazing 3D Paintings

Nope, a huge ice crevasse didn't open along a pier in Ireland. This is the work German wunderkind Edgar Mueller, a street artist who uses old-school painting techniques to create some seriously sweet paintings.

Spread out over 250 square meters (or about 2700 square feet), Mueller uses anamorphic technique to create paintings that have the illusion of depth when viewed from exactly the right angle

The illusion falls apart when you catch it from the wrong angle. Above is Mueller's "The Waterfall," seen from the top of the painting. But if you were to walk around to where the artist is standing, you would see the image below:

Meuller isn't the only contemporary artist creating 3D sidewalk art. His peers include Julian Beever and Kurt Wenner.
