Although it's a dirty job, someone has to clean out the refrigerator. Especially if you cook at home often, it's best to get rid of old milk before it spoils. I clean my fridge out once a week, but if you haven't checked the contents of the cheese drawer in a while, I suggest you start your Spring cleaning now. Here's what you should do to maintain a pristine, fresh-smelling fridge.
Consolidate Start by consolidating items. Remove the beer bottles and soda cans from their packaging and recycle the boxes. Combine open containers of the same items, like the black olives seen here.
Check the Expiration Dates Examine the expiration dates of dairy products such as milk, cream, and eggs. If it's expired, get rid of it. Pour the liquid down the drain and recycle the packaging.
Dispose of Old Beverages I know it's a horrible habit, but often times I open a drink, take a few sips of it, return it to the fridge, and never finish it. If a soda has been sitting on the shelf for days, it's flat, so remove it and dump it out.
Remove Tupperware Don't let old, uneaten items in Tupperware crowd your fridge. If it's a dish that's a week old, throw it in the trash and place the Tupperware in the dishwasher.
Wipe Spills Spray any liquid or sauce messes with cleaning spray and scrub clean.
Remove Baggies Check the produce drawers. If you have bags of citrus or other uncut fruit and vegetables, take them out of the bags.
Throw Out Wilted Greens Look at the greens, vegetables, and herbs. Anything extremely wilted and old should be thrown out.
Get Organized It will be easier to cook if you know what ingredients you have on hand. Organize the shelves and drawers so the cheese, deli meats, drinks, etc. are visible.
